About Me

Welcome to Purple Inkwell Studios! I'm April Martin, the founder and creative mind behind this artistic space.

I grew up in the countryside of West Virginia and Ohio, back when life was simpler, and technology wasn't as prominent. My childhood was filled with imagination, creativity, and exploration. I fondly remember evenings spent watching shows like "Anne of Green Gables" and "The Andy Griffith Show" on PBS, which sparked my love for storytelling.

After serving as a crew chief on the B1 bomber in the United States Air Force in Rapid City, South Dakota, I met my husband, Robert, who often jokes that he was issued a wife along with his uniform. After eight years in the Air Force, I settled into civilian life in Taylorsville, Kentucky, with Robert, and we've raised two boys together over nearly two decades.

Over the past 20 years, I've been involved with various communities in Louisville, Indianapolis, and surrounding areas. I've collaborated with organizations like Preston's Art Center, the Speed Art Museum, Seven Counties Services, and the Drepung Center for Compassion. I've also participated in community initiatives such as Athena's Sisters, a veterans' program for women.

As a coal miner's daughter from a close-knit family, I value hard work, resilience, and community. My husband and I share our home with our two dachshunds, Lilly and Charlie, and our cat, Bob.

At Purple Inkwell Studios, I bring my passion for art, storytelling, and creativity to life. I illustrate graphic novels, teach art classes, and create custom art pieces, all with a sense of wonder and possibility.

I've also had the privilege of working with the neurodiverse community, developing art programs and game clubs that highlight the unique talents of individuals across the neurodiverse spectrum. It's fulfilling to watch them grow and express themselves creatively.

My goal is to publish illustrated novels and graphic novels, fulfilling a dream I've had since I was nine. I'm excited about the journey ahead, filled with endless possibilities and creativity.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me—one filled with nostalgia, inspiration, and the pursuit of dreams.

Warm regards,
April
