About Me
Welcome to Purple Inkwell Studios! I'm April Martin, a writer, illustrator, and founder of this creative space dedicated to impactful, evocative storytelling.
Growing up in the countryside of West Virginia and Ohio, my childhood was defined by imagination, exploration, and evenings spent with classic tales like Anne of Green Gables. After serving as a B1 bomber crew chief in the United States Air Force, I transitioned into civilian life in Taylorsville, Kentucky, where I raised a family and immersed myself in my creative passions.
Throughout my career, I’ve collaborated with inspiring organizations, including Preston's Art Center, the Speed Art Museum, and Seven Counties Services. I’ve also contributed to initiatives like Athena's Sisters, a veterans’ program for women, and developed creative programs for the neurodiverse community. These experiences, along with my background as a coal miner’s daughter, have instilled in me a deep appreciation for resilience, community, and the power of creative expression.
At Purple Inkwell Studios, I bring these values to life through illustration and storytelling. My passion lies in creating graphic novels and illustrated books that explore mental health, resilience, and the human spirit, drawing from both my personal journey and a lifelong love of narrative art. I’m especially interested in projects that delve into psychological and emotional themes, capturing the grit, hope, and depth of the human experience.
As I move forward, my goal is to publish graphic novels and illustrated works that resonate deeply with readers. I’m always open to collaborating with like-minded writers, publishers, and creatives who share a vision for storytelling that transcends the ordinary. Thank you for joining me on this journey filled with creativity, nostalgia, and the pursuit of dreams.
Warm regards,
April Martin
